On Android, a reliable Kill Switch is built into the system. PryVPN can't turn it on for you, but it opens the right screen: Settings › Kill Switch › Open VPN settings.
- Open Android's VPN settings.
- Tap the gear next to PryVPN.
- Turn on Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN.
With both on, Android starts PryVPN when the phone starts, and blocks internet access for apps whenever the VPN isn't connected. Inside PryVPN, traffic also stays blocked while it reconnects or switches servers.
Good to know
- Disconnect then leaves you without internet. That's the point: turn Always-on off to use your normal connection again.
- Wi-Fi login pages may not open. See Wi-Fi login pages.
- Apps you exclude with split tunneling, and local devices with Allow local network, may lose internet access too, because Android blocks everything outside the VPN.
- When you change server or protocol yourself, the tunnel restarts for a moment. Without these settings, Android uses your normal connection during that gap.
- Some Android versions let a few system checks bypass any VPN. We'd rather tell you than promise more than Android can do.
Android 16
- After an update, Android 16 can keep blocking PryVPN's own connection while Always-on is on. PryVPN restarts its VPN service up to three times to recover. If it still can't connect, it tells you: turn Always-on VPN off and on again, or restart your phone.
- On Android 16, a malicious app on your phone could send a few packets outside any VPN while its connections close, even with Block connections without VPN on. Google has chosen not to change this. Install apps you trust.
