Measure your download and upload speed, ping and jitter in about 25 seconds, and find out what your connection is good for. No ads, no account, nothing kept.

Measured between your device and our server in Europe (pryvpn.com). Speeds to each PryVPN location come next.
What your speed is good for
Run the test and each line shows whether your connection is fast enough. These are the usual figures streaming and call services recommend.

What the test measures
The same three steps most speed tests use, between your browser and our server.
- Ping and jitterTwenty tiny requests. Ping is the fastest round trip; jitter is how much the round trips vary. Both matter more than speed for calls and games.
- DownloadFor about ten seconds your browser downloads random data over several connections at once, the way a video or a big app download does.
- UploadThen it sends random data back for about ten seconds. Our server reads it and throws it away.
A test uses up to about 400 MB on a very fast connection, much less on a slow one. On mobile data it counts against your plan.
How to get a faster result
Speed changes with the time of day, the room you're in and what else is using the connection. A few simple things make a big difference.
- Get closer to the router, or use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network if yours has one.
- Pause downloads and streams on other devices while you test.
- Test a few times at different hours: evenings are often slower.
- Restart the router if speeds are much lower than your plan.
Does a VPN slow down your internet?
A little, always: your traffic takes a detour through the VPN server and is encrypted on the way. With a modern protocol like WireGuard and a server near you, most people don't notice.
PryVPN uses WireGuard and picks a nearby location with spare capacity. Some providers slow down video or games on purpose; a VPN hides what you're doing, so that kind of throttling stops working.
Coming next: the speed to every PryVPN location
Soon you'll be able to test the speed to each of our server locations, to pick the fastest one before you connect.
Nothing is stored
- Nothing stored: the results live in this tab and disappear when you close it
- Our server only: the test talks to pryvpn.com and no other company
- Not logged: our web server keeps no record of the test requests
The test is served by nginx, the web server that runs pryvpn.com, from a file of random data. Each network can run a few tests a minute, to keep the server fast for everyone.
What this test can't know
- The speed of your plan: it measures the path to our server in Europe, which can be slower than the path to a server near you.
- The speed of other devices on your network, or of apps other than this browser.
- Speeds above about 1 Gbps: the browser and the test size become the limit.
- The speed to each PryVPN location: that's coming next.
Speed test questions
What is a good internet speed?
For one person, 25 Mbps down is enough for 4K video and 3 to 5 Mbps up for video calls. A household with several people streaming at once needs 100 Mbps or more.
What is ping, and what is a good ping?
Ping is the time a tiny message takes to reach a server and come back. Under 50 ms is great for games, under 150 ms is fine for calls.
What is jitter?
Jitter is how much the ping changes from one moment to the next. High jitter makes calls choppy and games lag, even with a fast connection. Under 20 ms is good.
Why is my speed lower than my plan?
Wi-Fi, distance to the router, other devices using the connection and the distance to the test server all lower the result. This test measures to our server in Europe, so it can read lower than a test to a server in your city.
Does a VPN slow down my internet?
A little, because traffic takes a detour and is encrypted. With WireGuard and a nearby server most people don't notice. See what affects VPN speed and WireGuard VPN.
How much data does the test use?
Up to about 400 MB on a very fast connection, and much less on a slow one, since each part stops after about ten seconds.
Do you store my results?
No. They stay in this browser tab. Our web server doesn't log the test requests, and no other company is involved.
